Zessie M. Chambless TRENTON Zessie M. Chambless, 90, of Trenton, NJ, departed this life on June 10, 2019 at Capital Health Regional Medical Center. Born in Dillon, SC, Zessie was educated in Dillon, SC and Portsmouth, VA. She continued her education at Voorhees College in Denmark, SC, where she obtained an associate's degree in Education. In 1953, Zessie moved to Trenton and continued her education at Trenton State College, where she obtained a BA and MA in Education. She retired in 1994 from the Trenton Board of Education after 25 years of service. Zessie was a member of Mount Zion AME Church, where she served as a stewardess, Rosette Usher Board member, and trustee emerita. She was also a member of The Order of The Eastern Star and The Dillonites Inc. Zessie was predeceased by her husband, John H. Chambless; her parents, Annie Mae Bethea Rogers and William Bethea; one son, Gregory V. Chambless; two sisters, Ethel Mae Bethea White (her twin) and Carlene Crawford; four brothers, Luther Bethea and John, James, and Willie Crawford; and aunt, Mary Jean Arnette. Zessie is survived by two special cousins, Charles Owens and David Alford; one special niece, Denise Bethea; one brother, Walter Crawford; two aunts, Dorothy Bethea and Pensacola Smith; and host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Friday, June 14, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Mt. Zion AME Church, 42 Pennington Ave. Trenton, NJ. Calling hours will be Friday from 9 to 11 a.m. at the church. Local arrangements are by Campbell Funeral Chapel, Trenton. Final services are entrusted to House of Thomas Funeral Home, Dillon, SC.
